The Bydgoszcz Studio of Experiment project provides the hosts of the series with the opportunity to invite two artists, with whom—under residency-like conditions—they will undertake a bold and necessary endeavor: to explore new artistic ground. Embracing this premise, I have assembled a trio that—although I cannot be entirely certain—would, in all likelihood, never have encountered one another under different circumstances. Thus, I bring to Bydgoszcz an experimental fado guitarist (ironically, I have yet to hear traditional fado music), whom I met during a several-month stay in Lisbon, and Roman Bromboszcz—a figure who exists somewhere between poet and cyborg, whom I have not yet met in person, though I have followed his career with a mix of curiosity and affectionate disbelief.
What might emerge from such a collaboration? Naturally, I cannot predict the outcome; however, even a complete failure in the context of such a meeting would constitute a meaningful experience—one to which I cordially invite you all.
Adam Kempa

Roman Bromboszcz is an avant-garde poet, science fiction writer, and composer specializing in electronic and computer music. His debut album, Art of Wave, explored the potential of sequences of sound waves that fall outside traditional musical scales. On his second release, The Ruins of Azkaban, he moved toward a mood of horror and fantasy. The latest chapter in this prolific output is devoted to the construction and deconstruction of the Polish language in Play at once, in which the artist examines vowels and consonants as the building blocks of transgressions and esplanades.

While preparing this edition of the Bydgoszcz Studio of Experimentation, I wanted to focus on what is fleeting, imperfect, and natural — on sounds that carry something organic within them, and on how they can be creatively deconstructed. I was intrigued by how sounds from the real world — field recordings, instrumental rustles, the human voice — can be transformed, looped, stretched, yet still retain their original character.
I invited two artists whose work resonates with this idea in a unique way.
Remi Vein
Niet F-n A sound artist, sound engineer, and record label manager, born in Italy in 1978. Founder of Kaczynski Editions – one of the most eclectic and original record labels in Italy. A musician with a discography of over 30 released albums across various labels in Europe and beyond. His work mainly focuses on sound manipulation, which he employs in electroacoustic and avant-garde music. Engaged in various musical projects, such as ranter’s bay, The Off-Keytchen, and 23RedAnts.
He has collaborated with numerous international artists, including theater directors, media artists, and visual artists, and has participated in many workshops and artist residencies across Europe. He also hosts an online radio show (Pulsioni Oblique on fango Radio) and creates his own instruments through the practice of so-called "circuit bending."
Patrycja Pączkowska flutist, bassist, vocalist, and improviser actively involved in the Toruń music scene. Her work revolves around experimental music, free improv, and alternative forms of sound expression. She is a member of, among others, the Toruń mprovised Orchestra and the band Suczy Napar. She co-creates local artistic initiatives and often engages in projects that combine music with performance and visual arts. Through her activities, she aims to contribute to building an open environment for those interested in music without boundaries and to expand the space for free artistic expression.
Remi Vein musician, DJ, and visual artist from Bydgoszcz, whose work oscillates between tradition and experimentation, with a distinct fondness for glitch aesthetics. As an artist, he creates every sound, image, and animation from scratch, allowing him to form a unique style that blends sound experiments with exceptional visual aesthetics. In his work, he explores various techniques, including microsampling, field recordings, generative (procedural) music, and aleatoricism. The same applies to his visual work.
He has performed multiple times at Mózg, mainly during the Improvised Music Evenings, and at the Fonomo Festival, collaborating with artists and bands such as Krzysztof "Freeze" Ostrowski, Sławek Janicki, Fetlar, Piotr Grygor, Sławek Pieniak, Dynasonic, Rozwód, and T'ien Lai. This collaboration has allowed him to develop a deep sensitivity to unusual, surprising sounds and images, which are central to his creative work. As a hobby, he also mixes at dance events in Bydgoszcz.
About
The Bydgoszcz Experiment Studio project involves the creation and implementation of a series regular events whose main goal is to build a platform for innovative and uncompromising creative activities, independent of financial and economic conditions.
BSE has been carried out in the Mózg club for many years and is a workshop space for local artists who meet regularly, also inviting domestic and foreign artists to cooperate. This year, BSE was included in the list of projects thanks to which Bydgoszcz was included on the UNESCO list as a City of Music, which will provide an opportunity to develop the idea of the experiment.
The project will include unlimited sound/musical activities stylistic and interdisciplinary activities in which sound plays a key role.
The BSE program is created as follows: The author of the project, Sławek Janicki, invited to cooperation of two curators: Adam Kempa i Remi Vein. The curators create two events to which they invite Polish and foreign. Under the supervision of a curator, artists create a new, interdisciplinary work.
The artists' work is audiovisually documented, and a film is created after each meeting presenting the artists and showing the creation process.
On the second day, each part project, a public presentation of the resulting work takes place.
2 presentations of this year's project are scheduled for: July 27, Juni 18.
The Bydgoszcz Experiment Studio is part of The Platform of Newly Created Transgressive Sounds project, included in the City of Bydgoszcz application as part of applying for entry into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
The project is implemented with funds from the Bydgoszcz UNESCO City of Music program.
